Extrusion of the pipe center layer:
More than just filler
In pipe extrusion, two or three layers of plastic are usually fused together to produce a pipe.
In the case of pipes made from three layers, the outer and inner layers are usually made from the same material. However, the middle layer can be extruded from different materials.
Middle layers in pipes can do more than just save costs. They can also improve mechanical properties, thermal insulation and soundproofing.
Examples:
- Insulation: Barium sulphate as insulator
- Mechanical properties: Glass fiber as reinforcement
- Weight reduction: Foam
