Joint pipe extrusion line

The two Franconian machine manufacturers have designed and installed a PP three-layer pipe extrusion line as part of a partnership.

The main extruder comes from Leistritz, the co-extruders and the three-layer pipehead from Hans Weber.

The requirements and tasks were clearly defined by the client:

The project scope was a PP three-layer pipe extrusion line, consisting of a co-rotating twin-screw extruder for the highly filled middle layer and two co-extruders for the inner and outer layers as well as a multi-layer head.

The aim was to optimize the necessary production steps and reduce production and energy costs.

Another aim was also to be able to react flexibly to possible recipe changes or market specifications regarding feed materials with the new system.

The newly developed overall system is equipped with a co-rotating twin-screw extruder of type ZSE 60 Maxx from Leistritz, Nuremberg, and two single-screw extruders of type NE3.30 as well as a three-layer pipehead from Hans Weber Maschinenfabrik, Kronach.

Together with the respective gravimetric and dosing systems, this system reduces the customer's production costs, according to Nuremberg and Kronach.

Instead of two production steps (production of a compound and pipe extrusion), the Leistritz and Weber system only requires a single step thanks to inline compounding.

In this case, this primarily saves production time. The high proportion of calcium carbonate or barium sulphate for the highly filled middle layer is fed directly to the extruder by means of a gravimetric dosing system. A melt pump ensures the necessary and stable pressure build-up of the melt.
